How clean is the Manawatu River?

Thanks to Mrs Simmons we were able to get agar plates to test bacteria in the Manawatu River. We compared this with tap & bottled water.

Just for fun we tested our fingers and coughs for bacteria.

YUK! We were disgusted with how filthy our fingers & the Manawatu River were!!!

Wacky Hair Day

We had a great time wearing Wacky Hair on Wednesday.
Our school raised money for the Westpac Helicopter.
What a great cause.

Areomania- Poem Presentation

These guys enjoyed using body language to interpret this poem.

Queen's Birthday?

I wonder why Queen's birthday isn't the queen's actual birthday?

Our ideas...
  • Connor thinks "may she was born at night time?"
  • Clay thinks "maybe because of the time difference?"
  • Chloe thinks "maybe so it will always be in the weekend so we don't have to miss out if we are too busy?"
  • Corey thinks " maybe because the queen wants us to have a day off?"
  • Millie thinks "maybe because it is the birthday of her relative?"
  • Donald thinks "maybe because people have a mini birthday?"
  • Nick thinks "maybe she is having a party?"
  • Peita thinks "maybe she makes up her dates so she can escape for a while?"
  • Karla thinks "perhaps different days because she is in England?"
  • Madison thinks "maybe because everyone is in a different place?"
I wonder what happens if we had a King instead of a Queen?

Explanation- Bike

Have a listen to Evie's explanation about bikes.

Bianca's kitten explanation

We have been learning how to write an explanation.

We need to:
  • Start with an introduction
  • Include a definition or brief description
  • Use paragraphs to sort ideas
  • End with a conclusion to summarises
  • Use topic specific words (technical words)
  • Explain- e.g. Parts, how it works, when it’s used
  • Use 2nd or 3rd person
  • Join ideas with conjunctions
  • Order your ideas logically
  • Use present tense
  • Use sub headings

Don't Tease

Here these guys are interpreting poetry using dance, drama & expression.

There's a wonton on my pompom

This poem is a catchy favourite for these boys. We've been working on reading with expression and using dance and drama to present poetry.

Bubble Puzzles

The 6 Gigs like to practise our basic facts. A bubble puzzle is a fun way to practise.
We have made bubble puzzles for each step of the Ashhurst School Basic Facts Ladder.
The aim is to find the answer & match each side... and vola you're done!

Poetry

At the beginning of this term we were looking at and interpreting poetry with dance and drama.

My Greatest Feat

We have been supporting the All Whites with their Greatest Feat- The World Cup.
Good Luck New Zealand!

Blaine would like to tell you more about his reading

Posting Comments

Today we are all going to have a go at posting comments on other Ashhurst School Blogs. When we leave a comment we need to remember...

WALT post comments
We need to:
  • Say positive comments about their blog (NO PUT DOWNS)
  • Double check our spelling
  • Give feedback (what they have done well)
  • Give feed forward (ideas for improvement)
  • Use our first name only
  • Write specific comments
  • Remember blogs are public & need to be suitable for the public
We can even ask questions.

Secret Squirels and Special Trees

On our way back from the Kindy. Miss Giles stopped us beside a special tree on Cambridge Ave. She remembers thinking there were secret squirrels in it- we didn't see any (ha ha)

However we did see this sign...

Notable Tree- What does this mean?
Is it an old tree? How old?
Why is it special?
What makes it notable?

Kindy Walk

Today the 6 Gigs walked to the Ashhurst Kindy to read to the children. We had a fabulous time.
After reading, we had a go at being 4 again! AND WE LOVED IT!

Edward loved playing in the playground.
Harison enjoyed painting.
Corey had fun on the computer.
Madison thought it was exciting playing with the play dough.

We will put photos of our trip on soon.

Beautiful Ashhurst?

Thanks for your comments about our slide show. Notice that beautiful Ashhurst has a question mark. We want you to wonder is this beautiful or not.

What do you think? Is Ashhurst beautiful?
